Otsuka and Amalgam Launch AI Solution for Alzheimer’s Caregivers
A new AI-powered app may have the potential to transform care for Alzheimer’s patients by providing essential support to caregivers.
Otsuka Precision Health and Amalgam have unveiled Elevmi, an intelligent digital application designed to enhance the caregiving experience.
Both companies say the app aims to “change the paradigm” of how caregivers access information and support, using AI to deliver curated, personalized guidance.
Elevmi is designed to address the most critical needs of dementia caregivers. According to a report from the Alzheimer’s Association, caregivers need 24/7 support, care coordination, and a deeper understanding of their loved one’s condition.
“The development of solutions like Elevmi is core to our mission. It also represents the future of the healthcare industry,” Sanket Shah, president of OPH, said in a statement.
“We have a responsibility to build solutions that matter for patients and for those caring for them in a way that fosters deeper connection. That is critical to evolving care to get patients the right interventions at the right time in their health journey.
“At OPH, we’re building those solutions and collaborating with best-in-class partners like Amalgam Rx across AI, mobile/web, and data science to solve problems related to that in a way that matters.”
Elevmi’s interface is powered by a cutting-edge large language model, trained on resources from the National Institute on Aging and leading mental health platform, PsychU.
With Elevmi’s conversational AI, caregivers can discuss their experiences, ask questions about their loved one’s condition, prepare for doctor’s visits, and access resources to support their own mental health.
AI innovations are proving to be valuable tools for supporting Alzheimer’s caregivers. For example, the University of Virginia recently developed a voice-monitoring system that detects mood changes in caregivers, offering real-time recommendations to help manage stress and improve interactions.
The system uses machine learning to listen for emotional cues, providing personalized suggestions to caregivers when it detects frustration or anger.
Ryan Sysko, CEO of Amalgam, emphasized that the Elevmi collaboration with Otsuka Precision Health reflects the company’s dedication to working closely with customers to navigate complexities and provide innovations for patients and caregivers.
“We pride ourselves on pushing the boundaries of current care models within the highly regulated and complex healthcare environment,” he added.
“While the AI space is full of new entrants, Amalgam has been developing medical-grade generative AI for years. Our AI platform has been purpose-built with appropriate guardrails for life sciences and other healthcare companies.”
